Simplicity 3835
Life has been a bit busy lately with just the ordinary stuff & trying to still get completely settled in (the reason for the lack of posting lately - hopefully that will change soon though), but I have managed to fit a little bit of sewing in. :)
I have had this pattern, Simplicity 3835, sitting in my pile of patterns for awhile now so I decided to finally follow the trend and try this pattern out for myself…
It is a tiny bit big around, but I still really like it! I followed Lera’s advice & made the back one piece, which I think looks a bit better than the 2 pieces that the pattern suggests (although it does take a bit more fabric that way). On the next version of it, I will definitely take it in a little bit & I think I might add some length to it since I am fairly tall.
There is of course going to be a next version (this pattern is addicting), since I have already bought enough fabric for 3 more tops…

The top looks great! I recently tried this pattern, too, but made the wrong size. Luckily I made it out of muslin and not the nice linen!
As far as it being too big around…did you remember to take out the extra 1 1/4 inches of seam allowance from not sewing the back as two pieces? I will also be doing it that way the next time I make this.
I need to see a pictue of you wearing the top to see if I would like one for myself… :)
I’m warning you now. Once you perfect the pattern you won’t be able to stop making them ! I speak from experience. Trust me. :)
The navy looks quite nice. It’s always difficult for me to sew solids because they aren’t all that exciting, but they are what I like to wear.
I added the darts from the dress version to the back. Fits much better that way. Even with the darts I didn’t need to add a zipper…slips over my head/shoulders just fine.

Sarah and I calculated our carbon “footprints.” It was very interesting. I think being single and not having appliances or eating meats reduces my footprint a bit… but I am still above the world’s average because I have a car.

I have to lengthen my shirts, too. Also, try putting in the darts. That really helps, even with the shirt. I just added darts to an existing shirt and it fits so much better now.
(If you fold both raw edges towards the center of the fabric and cut the front and back from the folds they should fit better. You might need to stagger them a little.)

I used to wear tops like this, also sewed my own! Loved them. Yours looks very nice. Hope things are going well now that you are settling in.
