vintage but not thrifted
I totally meant to blog about this right after Christmas and just never got around to it, so better late than never right! :) I am always seeing wonderful thrift finds on everyone else’s lovely blogs, and sometimes get a bit jealous (or at least wish we had good thrift shopping where I live). Well I finally have something vintage-ish to share (although not thrifted)…
This book was actually originally owned by my great-grandmother (Nana) and when she gave her sewing machine to my grandma who later gave it to my mom, she meant to include this book. (Mom, correct me if I get any of this wrong :) Anyways when Nana passed away, my grandma found this book & gave it to my mom a month or two ago, who then gave it to me this Christmas because she knew I would like it. (Did you follow all of that? :)
I have not had much time yet to look through it, other than flipping through it a little bit to take these photos. It is mostly text & illustrations, but has some wonderful inspiration inserted in with these color photos & designs. I love how even though this book is from 1969 (okay I know that isn’t super old, but it is still before I was born:), so much of the inspiration is totally in style right now just slightly modernized. Style really does repeat doesn’t it! :)
My favorite illustration in the book has to be this dress/tunic drawing…
I would love to make a similar dress to that, although I still have several other clothing sewing projects to finish up before I start another one. (Including the skirt that I was going to make for the holidays and ran out of time because of pattern issues & having to leave to visit family. I am still planning on finishing it though, maybe I can wear it for next year’s holidays:)
