my week

Published by charamichele under Uncategorized

This week has been fairly busy, hence why I haven’t posted much lately. Welcome to at least the next two years of my life:) (Which I might say I am looking very forward to!) So the summary of my recent week…

Ben had a business trip this week, so he was gone for several days. So my mom came and visited me, which was pretty cool although I missed Ben a lot. I only worked two days this week, that way my mom and I had plenty of time to hang out. Before she got here I made a list of a bunch of stuff we could do and when she arrived we added some more to the list. Well we actually did everything except I think two things on the list! We packed a lot into only a couple days, but it was fun to get to hang out! One of the things we did was make pillows for the couch Ben & I got (which was delivered on Tuesday!!!). The pillows look pretty cool if I might say so and the couch is really nice! I will definitely post some pics of the couch & pillows. Not tonight though, but maybe sometime this weekend…

Of course a visit from my mom would not be complete without a little tiramisu for dessert, some shopping (even if it is just wal-mart and the fabric store), and nowadays it would seem a little bit of sewing:)

I cannot believe I am graduating in just a little over a month! It almost feels like all the hard work was worth it;) (I know that it is, I just have to joke a little bit about it!) I was thinking just the other day about how much has happened in the last year or so, and I can hardly believe it. Getting married, getting Pounce, moving to a new city, working as a vet assistant, getting Axel, getting accepted to the vet tech program, and now graduating with my undergrad in Business… it has definitely been an eventful and great year in a lot of ways!

I took some more pics of the cats today, so I will probably post a couple when I get a chance. They were sitting enjoying the spring air through the window and it was pretty cute. Enjoy the weekend!

my first sewing project almost complete…

Published by charamichele under Uncategorized

I am almost done with my first sewing project that I started in my sewing class. It is a “blouse” as my sewing teacher called it. I would prefer to refer to it as a shirt with buttons on it:) All I have left is to sew the buttonholes and add the buttons and the shirt will be complete. It isn’t probably something I normally would have picked if given a choice of what exactly to sew, although I have to say that it hasn’t turned out too bad. When I have the buttons on and everything I will probably take a picture and post it so everyone can see my first project.

Since I was so close to the end of the first project, I also started a second project. (Can you tell I am kind of procrastinating on the scary buttonhole part of the first project? Buttonholes may look simple, but I will never again take them for granted… even with an automatic buttonhole maker on my sewing machine!) My second project is some scrub tops for work with the cool fabrics that I posted on my blog at an earlier time (see archives). I am starting with a cheap fabric that I bought to try things out on, so that maybe I can even be brave and modify the pattern slightly. It should be interesting to see how that turns out.

Axel and Pounce slept all day long today. I think they are going to be awake all night! It was too cute though to wake them up, since most the day they were laying right next to each other cuddling.

london

Published by charamichele under Uncategorized

I randomly happened upon a fun little quiz that tells you what city you belong in. So I was curious to see what it would say for me. Kind of interesting:)

You Belong in London

A little old fashioned, and a little modern.

A little traditional, and a little bit punk rock.

A unique woman like you needs a city that offers everything.

No wonder you and London will get along so well.

bird watching

Published by charamichele under Uncategorized

Pounce and Axel have decided that they do share some common interests. Such as being nocturnal, chasing fuzzy mice toys and hiding them under the stove, drinking out of the sink, taking naps all day long, and several other interests. So since they share so much in common they have decided to take up a hobby together, bird watching. To assist them with their new hobby of bird watching, Ben kindly installed a bird feeder out on our patio so they can enjoy the birds and occasional squirrel.

So yes these pictures really are of the two of them watching birds. The amazing thing is that they actually sat still for me to take these pictures. Usually when I pull the camera out one or the other comes running so close to me that I can’t take a picture. For those of you unsure of which cat is which, in the top picture Pounce is the cat furthest away and Axel is closest to the camera. In the bottom picture they switched sides so Pounce is laying down in front and Axel is sitting in the back. The way we tell the difference is that Pounce has really defined stripes while Axel’s stripes are mostly on his tail and leg. They are definitely pretty adorable together and a lot of fun to have around!

time to relax

Published by charamichele under Uncategorized

Tomorrow I get to relax:)

Well, actually I have a bunch of stuff to get done, but I still plan on setting aside some time to just enjoy my day and relax a little.

Pounce and Axel are becoming friends. They still fight a little at times, but it is becoming more of a little brother type of thing I think. The cute thing is that they insist on being in the same room. When one goes to a different room (no matter which one it is) the other immediately follows. It is pretty adorable and kind of reminds me of the early days with Kittie & Patch (except Kittie was a dog…).

Reese got adopted and is going home tomorrow (as long as the people come to get her of course, unfortunately people do back out at the last minute…). I think I may actually cry when I go to work and she isn’t there. I am happy for her, but will miss her at the same time. If only we had a house….

I think when I get old, I may be one of those crazy old ladies with a ton of cats (& dogs in my case). (If anyone is reading this who fits this description, I am not making fun of those ladies obviously since I think I might be one of them some day:). In reality, I just really love being around animals. They definitely add a little something special to life.

I cannot wait till I am a vet tech:)

oh the suspense

Published by charamichele under Uncategorized

For those of you who did not know, before the new year I had applied for a veterinary technology program at the local college. After getting Pounce and volunteering at the humane society I discovered that I really loved working with animals. Then I happened to apply for and get the vet assistant job at the humane society. Working there has made me realize how much I really want to pursue this field as a career. So as you can imagine, I have been waiting anxiously to find out if I got into the vet tech program. Even more so the last couple of weeks, since all the information had said that I would find out sometime in March.

So I have been watching the mail the past couple of weeks, just waiting and today when I opened up the mailbox… Well the mailbox contained some amazing news! I GOT IN!!!!! I am so excited, I get to go to school for veterinary technology this fall. Which is pretty crazy, since I will just be graduating in May with my other degree.

(In case anyone is disappointed I didn’t tell them about applying for this program earlier, it is because I did not want to have to be too disappointed and have to tell everyone if I didn’t get in.)

life

Published by charamichele under Uncategorized

Wow I haven’t blogged since last Friday! I can’t believe a week has passed already… Pounce and Axel are slowly adjusting to each other. We still can’t leave them alone for any extended period of time and they fight occasionally when we are around, but overall they are starting to play with each other and tolerate each other. Of course Pounce has to make sure that he is the boss and I think they fought that out, but Pounce still feels the need to reinforce his status. The funny thing is that Axel will probably eventually get bigger than Pounce, so we keep telling Pounce to watch out:) I have been trying to get pictures of Pounce and Axel together or even just separate, but neither of them are big on having their picture taken. So as soon as I can convince them or bribe them, I will post some pics.

Other than watching and playing with the two cats, I have been working a bunch and trying to get school and other assorted stuff done. My family came down for a short visit this week (it was spring break, so Sari was able to come too). We just hung out and I showed them where I work. (I tried to convince them to adopt a doggie from work, but they just weren’t going for it…. Isn’t Reese so cute though! - all 95 pounds of her:)

Last weekend Ben & I got new cellphones and celebrated our one-year anniversary (I can’t believe it has been a year already, I’m loving every day of it Ben!) We also found the local bakery which we have been searching for since we moved here. It was a fairly busy weekend, so hopefully we will be able to relax a little this weekend.

If anyone wants my new cellphone number, call my old cellphone (which will still work for another couple weeks) or call me at home. I would love to talk:)

spoiled:)

Published by charamichele under Uncategorized

I am being totally spoiled today. When one cat doesn’t want to cuddle, I just go into the other room and the other cat will cuddle. It is pretty cute, they are both purring a ton and just soaking up attention. Of course that means that I am not getting much done today, but I think it is worth it.

Axel

Published by charamichele under Uncategorized

We got a second kitty today! His name is Axel, he is 7 months old, and he is a short-haired brown tabby. As much as two brown tabbies can look different, he and Pounce are about as different looking as they come. Pounce has really defined stripes that only become more defined the bigger and older he gets. Axel on the other hand does not have much in the way of stripes, he is more blended.

The two of them have not yet met. We are doing the introductions slowly so as to make sure they are more likely to get along. Although, they have been sitting on opposite sides of the door we have them separated by almost all night. They have been sniffing quite a bit and even meowing back and forth a little. Hopefully introducing them will go smoothly… If anyone has any tips that we should know, either leave me a comment or email me. I would also love to hear any stories anyone has about introducing two cats.

Axel is of course from the shelter where I work. He caught my eye awhile back and everytime I walked past his cage I had to stop and say hi. At the shelter, his name was not Axel, but we felt it necessary to change his name when we brought him home. His former name was just ridiculous…. This means that he doesn’t know his name yet, but we will be working on that. Of course being a kitten still, he is fairly playful and energetic (which is good since he has to keep up with Pounce). He is a little on the skittish side, although that could just be from being in a new environment and not being sure about what exactly is happening. He also does not seem to be as cuddly as Pounce, but that is good since there are only so many laps to go around and Pounce might get jealous if he was. I think it should definitely be fun to have the two of them together (hopefully they will get along…:).

Blog entries this weekend may be lacking, since a lot of our time will be taken up by the two kittys. It is also our anniversary this weekend! We have made it through a year of marriage (well I guess I can’t say that until Sunday), which is pretty cool. I’m loving every day of it:) Have a great weekend everyone!!!

How many dogs does it take to change a light bulb?

Published by charamichele under Uncategorized

My mother-in-law, Margo sent me this adorable email. Obviously I love just about anything that has to do with animals, so this joke was great!

How many dogs does it take to change a light bulb?

1. Golden Retriever: The sun is shining, the day is young, we’ve got our whole lives ahead of us, and you’re inside worrying about a stupid burned out bulb?

2. Border Collie: Just one. And then I’ll replace any wiring that’s not up to code.

3. Dachshund: You know I can’t reach that stupid lamp!

4. Rottweiler: Make me.

5. Boxer: Who cares? I can still play with my squeaky toys in the dark.

6. Lab: Oh, me, me!!!!! Pleeeeeeeeeze let me change the light bulb! Can I? Can I? Huh? Huh? Huh? Can I? Pleeeeeeeeeze, please, please, please!

7. German Shepherd: I’ll change it as soon as I’ve led these people from the dark, check to make sure I haven’t missed any, and make just one more perimeter patrol to see that no one has tried to take advantage of the situation.

8. Jack Russell Terrier: I’ll just pop it in while I’m bouncing off the walls and furniture.

9. Old English Sheep Dog: Light bulb? I’m sorry, but I don’t see a light bulb!

10. Cocker Spaniel: Why change it? I can still pee on the carpet in the dark.

11. Chihuahua: Yo quiero Taco Bulb. Or “We don’t need no stinking light bulb.”

12. Greyhound: It isn’t moving. Who cares?

13. Australian Shepherd: First, I’ll put all the light bulbs in a little circle…

14. Poodle: I’ll just blow in the Border Collie’s ear and he’ll do it. By the time he finishes rewiring the house, my nails will be dry.

How many cats does it take to change a light bulb?

Cats do not change light bulbs. People change light bulbs. So, the real question is: “How long will it be before I can expect some light, some dinner, and a massage?”

ALL OF WHICH PROVES, ONCE AGAIN, THAT WHILE DOGS HAVE MASTERS, CATS HAVE STAFF!

Thank you Margo!
